The film - feature-length directorial debut of Serge Hazanavicius, actor and brother of Michel Hazanavicius - is not based on facts, such as the Oscar-winning "The Man Who Went Off Everest" (1975). It is a fantasy, but shaped by a real tragedy: the film is dedicated to Marco Siffredi, who was the first, and so far only, attempt to descend from the Chomolungma snowboard snowboard Kuluarem Hornbein, the Golden Grail of professional snowboarding, and was lost during the congress.
The main character of the film, Scott Ferret (Kev Adams), has a dream to get this Golden Grail, and the whole film follows the convention of the dream: Hazanaviciusa is not interested in moral, personal or even technical matters. He chooses adventure and beauty: light on snow, the spectacularness of descents and snowboarding as a dance.
